Tokengating enables eligible Shopify retailers to establish online shops. They may decide which token holders have access to certain limited-release goods, NFT drops, and other perks. The application is promoted as a convenient method for NFT Merchant to incentivize select customers. It will also add uniqueness to particular items by verifying qualification via the person’s associated wallet. Shopify has adopted the sign-in with ETH (SIWE) protocol developed by the Ethereum-Name Services (ENS) and the ETH Foundation to better handle crypto wallets.

Shopify Integrates SIWE for Secure Login to ETH Accounts and ENS Domain without Personal Information Disclosures

SIWE allows users to log in to their ETH account and ENS domain securely without disclosing personal information. It includes their names, contact information, or addresses. Shopify has previously encountered negative feedback over the protection of users’ personal information. There was a large breach of user data in 2020 and in April last year. A group of dissatisfied customers launched a class-action litigation against the company and hardware wallets manufacturer Ledger.

Some members of the ETH community were pleased when, on February 9, ENS Labs’ aim is to encourage the SIWE connection with Shopify. It also provided a link to programmer documentation outlining how to integrate the tools into Shopify businesses.

It uses the statement Generator function to change the statement used in the Sign In with ETH prompt. You may expand and tailor your messaging claims to better accommodate your brand by using the name of the associated wallet, which is sent to the method.

It seems that when a vendor integrates the SIWE function on the Shopify wallets link. Customers will be able to relate the ETH addresses by clicking a sign-in with the ETH button and then using one of the SIWE-partnered intermediaries currently  Fortmatic, WalletConnect, Coinbase, Torus, or Portis.
