Signet Jewelers Ltd (NYSE:SIG) Cut Forecasts

Signet Jewelers Ltd (NYSE:SIG) stock fell 2.48% (As on June 9, 11:48:11 AM UTC-4, Source: Google Finance) after the company cut its full-year forecast for profit and sales, though posted better than expected results for the first quarter of FY 24. The company achieved this despite 50% of the business being in bridal, which the company expected to decline and in an environment that deteriorated late in the quarter, which the company has seen to continue in the second quarter. The swing factors in recent consumer confidence, lower tax refunds, economic concerns triggered by regional bank failures, and continued inflation led to a weakening trend in spending across the jewelry industry of an additional 10 points that the company estimates based on external reports. The company expected the low double-digit decline in engagements that they saw this quarter. Similar to the fourth quarter, the company expected to see units decline, but the company also expected growth in average transaction value, which did not materialize. This reflects the accelerated macro pressures on spending, as well as a heightened promotional environment. In fashion, the company continues to see pressure at lower price points as has been the case for the past year. However, later in the quarter, the company began to see degradation at higher price points between $1,000 and $5,000 in fashion. Services grew more than 5%, compared to this time last year, reflecting the notable progress across our services offerings, a key driver with our extended service agreements or ESAs.
