BNP Paribas stands as one of the more notable banks the world has to offer, and has today reported its 2020 yearly financial results. In terms of overall revenue, this remained unchanged more or less, with operating expenses going down by 3.6% compared to 2019 and recording revenue at €44.2 billion. COVID-19 Running Amok In 2020
The official numbers make it clear that there were numerous challenges the COVID-19 pandemic had thrown into BNP Paribas’s face. The easiest to see this is through the 4.4% jump in outstanding loans since 2019, going up to €33 billion in total. To pile on to this, the revenues for international financial services saw a 7.2% drop, as well.
The overall revenue clocked in at the end of Q4 2020 stood at €10.82 billion. This, in turn, represents a year-over-year decrease of 4.5%. One of the upsides to all of this, however, is the Group saw its operating expenses go down, as well, by the tune of 5.9% for Q4 2020 compared to Q4 2019.
The Mandatory Self-Praising
Jean-Laurent Bonnafé stands as the CEO of BNP Paribas, giving the mandatory public statement along the way for this year. According to Bonnafé, all BNP wants to do is helping its clients cope with the ongoing health crisis, ensuring the health of its employees along the way.
Of course, Bonnafé took the time to thank the bank’s teams, as well, citing how quickly they’ve adapted to the crazy circumstances of 2020. Bonnafé claimed that the bank had mobilized every bit of resources it has in order to help its clients and not itself. Indeed, Bonnafé claims that the bank helped lay down the foundations in order to have a sustainable, solid recovery in the economic front.
Bonnafé further praised the resilience of BNP Paribas, attributing it to the bank’s integrated and diversified model, its industrial and digital transformation, its financial solidity, and the general execution capabilities. With all of these advantages, Bonnafé stated that the bank is poised to enter a whole new developmental phase regarding its activities.
A Strange Start For The Year
The COVID-19 pandemic has been noteworthy thanks to the ongoing financial crises it has spawned. Everything from an oil price collapse to halving the crypto industry in value to the general stocks seeing a plummet have been done thanks to COVID-19.
The world at large is now in almost a recovery phase, with various job cuts and collapsing businesses hopefully starting to expand outwards once more. Time will tell how the year will go, however, since COVID-19 is still ongoing, even with the vaccines rolling out.
