Procter & Gamble Co (NYSE: PG) and global feminine care leader, Always, has announced a new commitment to addressing the challenges that girls and young women are facing due to the effects of the Syrian refugee crisis. They partnered with UNESCO and Save the Children, will help rebuild the confidence of girls in Jordan through education and skill development.
Meanwhile, Olay, a product of Procter & Gamble did the collaboration with personal genetics company 23andMe, and has recently conducted a study to identify factors associated with exceptional skin aging. As per the study, the external factors (nurture) had a larger effect on exceptionally youthful skin appearance than two identified genetic variations (nature). Further, the sunscreen usage and positive attitude are positively correlated with younger-looking skin, while sunbathing and frequent dry skin have a negative association with skin aging.
Procter & Gamble came out with a solid second quarter of 2016 results today delivering core earnings per share of $1.08, excludes the restructuring charges and other items, beating the analysts’ estimates of $1.06. The company has reported the net sales of $16.85 billion, beating the analysts’ estimates of $16.77 billion. The organic sales grew two percent and the organic sales and organic volume grew in all the five business segments. PG has upped the organic sales growth forecasts. PG now expects the organic sales to grow 2 to 3 percent, up from its previous forecast of about 2 percent. In addition, PG expects the combined fluctuations of foreign exchange and minor brand divestitures will reduce sales growth by two to three percentage points. Therefore, PG estimates that all-in sales to be in line with the FY 16.
Procter & Gamble has returned $1.8 billion of cash to shareholders as dividends, has repurchased $1.5 billion of common stock and exchanged shares with a value of $9.4 billion in the Beauty Brands transaction in the second quarter.
Procter & Gamble has been restructuring itself and shedding unprofitable brands as it focuses on core brands, including Tide and Gillette, to boost sales. The company had sold 41 of its brands last year, including Clairol and COVERGIRL, to Coty Inc for $12.5 billion. The second quarter included a gain from discontinued operations, including brands sold to Coty.
