Tech stock to watch today: Texas Instruments Incorporated (NASDAQ: TXN)

Texas Instruments Incorporated (NASDAQ: TXN) in the first quarter of FY 17  has reported the adjusted earnings per share of $0.89, beating the analysts’ estimates for the adjusted earnings per share of $0.83. The company had reported the adjusted revenue growth of 13.1 percent to $3.4 billion in the first quarter of FY 17, beating the analysts’ estimates for revenue of $3.31 billion. The increase was due in part to greater demand in its automotive and industrial sectors. Texas Instruments revenue has increased for both TI’s Connected Microcontrollers and Processors lines. Operating profit for the embedded processing line rose due in part to higher revenue and associated gross profit. Texas Instruments has posted the net income of $997 million in the first quarter 2017. Further, in the core businesses, Analog revenue grew 20 percent and Embedded Processing revenue grew 10 percent from the same quarter a year ago. The operating margin has increased in both businesses. Overall, the company had the gross margin of 63.0 percent due to the quality of the product portfolio, as well as the efficiency of the manufacturing strategy, including the benefit of 300-millimeter Analog production.

Looking ahead, Texas Instruments expects in the second quarter the earnings per share in the range of $0.89 to $1.01, compared to the analysts’ $0.90 view including the estimated $30 million discrete tax benefit, and revenues of $3.4 to $3.7 billion, while the analyst is expecting for $3.5 billion.

Texas Instruments share will begin trading ex-dividend on 27th April 2017. The group has returned $3.8 billion to owners in the past one year through the stock repurchases and dividends. Texas Instruments had $3.0 billion of cash and short-term investments at the end of the first quarter, about 80 percent of which was owned by the company’s U.S. entities. The inventory ended the first quarter at 132 days. Additionally, the cash flow from operations of $4.8 billion for the trailing 12 and the free cash flow for the trailing 12 months was up 11 percent from a year ago to $4.2 billion and represents 30.7 percent of revenue, up from 29.5 percent a year ago.
