An online visibility management platform Semrush has released interesting research that previews 2020 when it comes to searches made on search engines. The firm used global data from website statistics and Google to share insights about 2020.

Based on the data, the most trending searches on Google were Hurrican Laura, Covid-19, Vicki Draves, Dilhan Eryhut, and George Floyd.

Covid-19 tops searches in 2020

With the year we have had, it’s not surprising that COOVID-19 tops the list of searches for the year, with more than 60 million average monthly searches about the pandemic since January 2020. However, 20% of the searches were related to the Black Lives Matter Movement. Inquiries about “George Floyd” alone skyrocketed to more than 41 million searches in May 2020.

In the business section, the report had some interesting insight that could even direct investment initiatives in 2021.

The report features data about investing searches for 2020, with keywords like oil, Gold, Bitcoin, Mutual Funds, Real Estate, and Stocks topping the list.

As Covid-19 impacted almost all businesses across the globe, investors were looking for the most viable investment option that can be stable enough for the sustenance of the Covid-19 pressures.

Tesla tops stock searches

Investors sought stocks (with 559.5K searches) more than other investment options followed by real estate with 128k searches, while currency, Bitcoin, and cryptocurrency came third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

When it comes to the top searches for stocks, Tesla topped the list, followed by Apple, Amazon, Boeing, Microsoft, and NIO in that order, according to the data.

Tesla’s top position as the most searched stock will not surprise many, giving that the company has been in the news throughout 2020 for several good reasons.

Most of these stocks are tech stocks, which have done quite better than other stocks in the market. Part of the reason is also based on the digital transformation seen in 2020.
