Tether, the platform powering the world’s first and most widely used stablecoin called $USDT, has made an exciting announcement. They are officially partnering with Lugano’s 3Achain, a move aimed at strengthening the dynamic blockchain infrastructure in Lugano.

Tether and Lugano Forge Path with LVGA and 3Achain Partnership

Lugano holds a unique position as one of the pioneering cities globally to introduce its very own stablecoin, known as Luga (LVGA). Tether’s role in this partnership is to host and manage a validator node for 3Achain. 3Achain is the official blockchain promoted by the City of Lugano and the underlying infrastructure of LVGA.

3Achain is a collaborative endeavor, bringing together public, private, and academic partners with the common goal of combining security, scalability, and decentralization in Lugano’s blockchain ecosystem. Tether will actively contribute to fostering and enhancing the growth of Lugano’s blockchain infrastructure. This infrastructure not only supports local businesses but also underpins the city’s native stablecoin.

Both Lugano and Tether are active participants in the Plan ₿ initiative. This initiative is designed to expedite the adoption and use of blockchain technology, serving as the foundation for Lugano’s transformation into a financial hub. Beyond embracing Bitcoin and Tether for transactions at over 350 local merchants, and soon for municipal payments such as taxes and parking, Lugano has also adopted its own digital currency, the LVGA token, as an official medium of exchange. The decision to host and manage a validator node for the 3Achain is a significant step forward in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Lugano and Tether in March 2022.

Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s Chief Technology Officer, expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership. He stated that Tether will make sure that Lugano grows as the Bitcoin and blockchain capital of the region. Moreover, he urged other municipalities to loop and learn from the impressive visionary administration.

Plan ₿ is a collaborative initiative between the City of Lugano and Tether. It aims to accelerate the use of Bitcoin technology as the foundation for transforming Lugano’s financial infrastructure. The project’s goal is to integrate blockchain and Bitcoin into various aspects of daily life for Lugano residents. It includes everyday transactions with local merchants as well as other substantial endeavors such as paying annual taxes.
