The previous article discusses the difference between change and transformation, and reasons for a business to implement a proper change management. A business needs to manage the change properly when it is faced with the problems related to competitiveness and profitability. To a larger extent, a business may need to transform as an effort for correcting huge mistakes, which can negatively affect the business and may even stop the operations.
How to Deal with Change Management in Business
As discussed previously, the first thing to do with change management is identifying the reasons for it. Change and transformation may involve pain and discomfort on the part of the affected parties. Therefore, the management should anticipate them from the beginning to minimize the risks. Then, following are few other things to do:
Build a Systematic Communication
Another important aspect to consider in a significant organizational change is a systematic and structured communication schedule. You need to communicate with the right people at the right time. During a significant change process, rumors will circulate. These can only be addressed with the right communication. The best strategy to avoid rumors is communicating the plan before it takes place.

Make sure to communicate well with all individuals and management levels that will be affected. Affected people may include stakeholders, managers, employees, business partners, and even customers. Give them details on what will change and what will not change. This way, the impacted people will anticipate anything that may disturb the business operation. This is a good way to avoid instability.
Mobilize the Employees from The Beginning
When you build good communication since the onset of the transition, then mobilization of the employees and related resources will be easier. You can minimize or even avoid resistance from the employees by involving them or giving them certain roles during the transition process. The following are some tips to mobilize your employees during the process:
- Describe your strategies to implement the change, including the timing
- Give details on the involved team and job descriptions
- If necessary, set a plan for employee training to keep their productivity during the corporate-wide rollout
- Give the employees tool to do their tasks during the transition
- Provide them with access to necessary data
- Keep monitoring the progress and evaluating the success
Celebrate Small Accomplishments
Do not expect that all phases of the change or transformation will happen simultaneously. Instead, make sure that everything goes with the specified phase. Evaluate each phase after it is complete and celebrate even small accomplishments. Celebration is a good momentum to signal the transition from a phase to the next. Do this for all of the steps to show the team members that your plan goes in the right path.
Another important thing in the change management is commitment. It must come from all levels, from the top management to the employees. If possible, make sure that the commitment is stated in an explicit (or written) way. This aims at making the employees and the leaders responsible for their roles in the change or transformation process.
