Tech Dominance Propels S&P 500 to Record High to Start June as Oil Spike Caps Broader Market Gains
U.S. equities launched into the new month with a tech-driven surge, propelling major benchmarks into record territory even as an oil price spike applied friction to the broader market. While energy sector volatility initially weighed on select sentiment, aggressive risk appetite in the technology space securely anchored the aggregate daily performance. By mid-afternoon, the market snapshot showed the S&P 500 rising by 33.52 points (0.44%) to capture a fresh record high at 7,613.58, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite outpaced its peers, gaining 180.895 points (0.67%) to trade at 27,153.515.
Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU)
The DJIA index opened higher to kick off June but immediately faced a wave of initial bearish pressure before the bulls stepped in to stage a resilient recovery. The blue-chip average currently moving near the 51,069.97 region, up a minor 37.51 points or 0.07%. The successful intraday recovery keeps the index on track to continue its broader upward movement, with the bull still targeting the 127.2% Fibonacci Extension level at 51,995.04.
Chevron Corporation (CVX)
CVX shares carved out an optimistic path during the session, climbing 2.10% to trade around $186.30 as the bulls found reliable support along the daily EMA 100 at 183.55. The underlying technical framework remains structurally healthy, characterized by a progressive sequence where a clear higher high has been printed on each successive bounce. Ideally we want for price action to sweep lower toward the EMA 200 at $174.42 before staging a strong rejection to validate a continuation of the macro bullish trend. However, given the current market strength, the stock could easily maintain its upward trajectory directly from its present coordinates. Conversely, a decisive daily close below the EMA 200 line would break the structural chain and effectively cancel the short-term bullish outlook.
