Markets Retreat as Geopolitical Tensions and Rising Yields Dampen Sentiment
U.S. equities faced persistent selling pressure during Wednesday’s session as investors grappled with an uptick in both oil prices and bond yields, which weighed heavily on the broader market. Major indices remained in negative territory as the session neared its close, with the blue-chip average leading the retreat. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fell approximately 448.61 points (0.87%) to trade at 50,859.18, the S&P 500 dropped 42.87 points (0.56%) to 7,566.91, and the Nasdaq Composite declined by 220.802 points (0.82%) to 26,873.099.
Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU)
The DJIA index faces bearish pressure. It surrendered all gains from the previous session. The long-term market structure remains bullish. However, the index is now at a critical juncture. A decisive break and daily close below yesterday’s low would likely signal a bearish correction. We still expect the index to resume its upward movement to target the 127.2% Fibonacci Extension level.
Walmart Inc. (WMT)
Walmart Inc. (WMT) staged a notable recovery during Wednesday’s session, successfully returning to trade above its EMA 200 at 116.47. The stock is positioned to potentially extend this momentum and initiate a new bullish leg. However, traders should exercise caution: if the share price fails to maintain this upward momentum and begins to retreat, the stock risks a bearish reversal with a technical target set near the $100.00 level.
