Wall Street Mixed as Inflation Concerns Dampen Tech Sector Surge

U.S. equities delivered a fractured performance on Tuesday, with a pullback in high-growth technology shares weighing on the broader market. While the S&P 500 retreated from its recent record levels, investors rotated into value-oriented segments, providing a modest lift to the blue-chip averages. The shift in sentiment comes as fresh economic data suggests inflation may remain “sticky,” prompting a re-evaluation of the near-term interest rate trajectory.

Official figures by mid-afternoon showed the S&P 500 declining 26.47 points, or 0.36%, to 7,386.37. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite faced steeper selling pressure, dropping 292.13 points, or 1.11%, to 25,981.99. Bucking the downward trend, the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed to gain 61.60 points, or 0.12%, trading at 49,766.07.

The DJIA index is trading slightly higher today, demonstrating resilience after an initial dip that saw it test its primary trend line support. Technically, the index appears to be gearing up for a renewed upward attempt. If the current buying interest persists, the Dow may target a fresh record high, potentially challenging the psychological resistance at the 50,000 mark. Otherwise, the index may continue to oscillate along the trend line as it searches for a stronger catalyst.

PepsiCo, Inc. (PEP)

PepsiCo shares are experiencing a volatile session, currently trading around $151.96 as they attempt to recover from early bearish pressure. The stock recently made a significant technical move by closing below its EMA 200 ($152.03). The immediate outlook for PEP depends on its ability to reclaim this lost ground. The share price is currently testing the EMA 200 and attempting to secure a close back above it. If the bulls manage to close above the EMA and erase all of yesterday’s losses, it could signal a potential bullish reversal. However, if the stock fails to sustain this recovery and remains pinned below the $152.00 level, it is likely to extend its recent weakness and test deeper support levels.
