USD/CHF Slips Below Key Support as Dollar Weakens Amid Market Optimism

In Thursday’s European session, the USD/CHF currency pair dipped below the critical support level of 0.9100, driven by a decline in the US dollar against the Swiss Franc amidst a positive market sentiment.

The US dollar faces downward pressure after reaching a five-month high, with the US Dollar Index (DXY) dropping to 105.85. Investors are reassessing expectations of rate cuts by central banks of other developed nations, following Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s stance on maintaining higher interest rates for an extended period. Powell cited stubbornly high inflation in the first quarter of the year, prompting a shift in market sentiment regarding early rate-cut bets by central banks like the Bank of England (BoE) and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ).

Meanwhile, risk appetite remains robust, as evidenced by significant gains in S&P 500 futures during the London session. Additionally, 10-year US Treasury yields experience a correction, declining to 4.57%.

Looking ahead, the US dollar could regain momentum supported by the resilient US economy characterized by strong economic growth, tight labor conditions, and robust household spending. This contrasts with other economies facing the risk of a technical recession.

On the Swiss franc front, investors may seize the corrective movement to establish new long positions. However, in the near term, the Swiss franc is expected to face further downside pressure as the Swiss National Bank (SNB) is anticipated to lower interest rates. With inflationary pressures in the Swiss economy remaining below the desired 2% rate, SNB policymakers have room to maneuver and reduce borrowing rates further.

Trade Idea:

Consider monitoring USD/CHF for potential short-term bearish opportunities, but exercise caution as the Swiss franc may face additional downward pressure due to potential SNB rate cuts.
