USD continues to climb near the highest level in two weeks

USD rose on Wednesday against a basket of global currencies to continue its gains for a second consecutive day, approaching the two-week high recorded earlier in the day. This rise comes as the demand for USD improves as the best alternative investment. High risk facing other major currencies especially Euro and British Pound.

USD index rose by 0.25% to 95.78 points, where the opening level of trading today at 95.55 points, and the lowest level at 95.47 points.

The index ended yesterday’s trading up by 0.4%, the third gain over the past four days, recording a two-week high of 95.88 points as the greenback resumed its rally against a basket of major and minor currencies.

The rally came after the impact of rising risk in Europe and the UK weighed on weak data in the United States, which showed a recession that surpassed expectations for producer prices in December.

The demand for the US currency has improved as the best alternative investment, given the high risk in Europe, which is pushing the major currencies against the Euro and the British Pound. These risks are the continuation of signs of slowing economic growth in Europe.

In the United Kingdom on Tuesday, parliament voted overwhelmingly against the country’s separation from the European Union. Today, a new vote is being drawn, this time to withdraw confidence from the British government led by Teresa May.
