Winklevoss twins warn that the SEC’s war on crypto will hurt Democrats

The US political scene in the future will suffer due to the SEC’s crackdown on the crypto industry right now, according to Cameron Winklevoss, a renowned crypto billionaire. Cameron and his brother Tyler seem to believe that the war on crypto will alienate the younger generations — primarily Millennials and Gen Z — from voting for the Democratic party and its presidential candidates.

The Democratic Party is setting the stage for its own failure

The twins said that the Democratic party was rescued from defeat in 2020 thanks to the youth vote. However, the next election cycle will not bring those votes back due to Senator Warren and Gary Gensler’s war on crypto.

The younger generations are big fans of the crypto industry. They were among the first to join in and are most open to adopting cryptocurrencies as part of their everyday life. If the current administration keeps cracking down on digital currencies, it will lose the support of crypto users, as it shows that it is not open to their preferred technology.

Tyler Winklevoss tweeted on Sunday that Republicans lost the midterms due to Roe v. Wade case, and the Democrats will lose the next election in 2024 due to an overly aggressive crypto crackdown.

The Democrats are underestimating the consequences of the crypto crackdown

Winklevoss warned that “Crypto has already won the hearts and minds of Millennials and GenZ. They don’t debate the merits of crypto, and they won’t forget the value destruction Warren and Gensler have caused.”

Cameron continued by proposing two explanations for what was going on. According to him, the Democrats either don’t understand what is going on with Warren and Gensler, or they are grossly miscalculating the impact of their actions on the youth vote. Winklevoss concluded that the officials might not care about cryptocurrencies, but they will care about the lost votes once the Democrats start losing the race.

He even shared a headline from 2022, which suggests that the Democrats saved face in the previous election thanks to young voters. The crypto entrepreneur views the current regulatory environment as something that will blow into the Democrats’ faces, and once they realize their mistake, it will be too late.

Not all Democrats are anti-crypto

While Cameron is not officially a member of any party, he has been a supporter of the Republican candidates in the past.

Meanwhile, Warren and Gensler are both Democratic party members. Warren made headlines earlier this year for her “Anti Crypto Army,” while Gensler, the SEC chair, has been a major critic of cryptocurrencies. The SEC just cracked down on Coinbase and Binance under his leadership, which attracted a lot of criticism.

Of course, Winklevoss’ prediction might yet be challenged, as there are some crypto supporters, even among the democrats. Robert Kennedy Jr., for example, is strongly pro-Bitcoin and recently started gaining a lot of support as a presidential candidate.
