GBPJPY has been carving out a symmetrical triangle pattern on the short-term time frame, with the pair forming a series of lower highs and higher lows as price compresses between converging trendlines.
The pair is currently testing the lower boundary of this formation around the 212.00 area, and how price reacts at this juncture could set the tone for the next significant move.
If the triangle floor holds as support, GBP/JPY could bounce back toward the upper boundary of the formation near 215.00–216.00, which has acted as a ceiling on several occasions since April.
A bullish breakout above this resistance could then trigger a measured move to the upside equal to the height of the triangle, potentially extending the rally well beyond the recent swing highs.
On the other hand, a decisive break below the triangle support and the channel bottom around 212.00 could signal a bearish resolution to the pattern. In this scenario, sellers could drive the pair toward the 210.00 handle and potentially lower, with the measured move to the downside projecting a sizeable drop from the breakdown point.

The 100 SMA and 200 SMA are both converging near the 214.00 area and have been crisscrossing price action, reflecting the indecision and consolidation playing out on this time frame. Neither moving average is providing a clear directional bias at the moment, which keeps both scenarios in play.
Stochastic has dipped into the oversold zone and appears to be turning higher, signaling a potential return of buying pressure. If the oscillator completes a bullish crossover from this area, a bounce from triangle support becomes more likely.
RSI is also hovering near the oversold threshold, with the indicator showing little room left to slide. A reversal higher in RSI from current levels would add further weight to the case for a bullish bounce off the triangle floor.
